| The 3rd Annual Youth Day Triathlon at Humboldt Hills July 16th,2006 Scorching heat, coupled with a lot of fun in the sun was the theme for the 3rd annual Youth Day Triathlon at Humboldt Hills Motorcycle Club, in Bainbridge Ohio. Although the mercury was at the top of the thermometer, the kids didn’t seem to mind. This day was set-aside for them. The day started off with the motocross race. In the 250cc and 125cc heat race, we saw a battle between Ryan Daugherty and Nicholas Eing. Daugherty who led the first 5 laps was running strong, but just couldn’ t hold off the fast charging Eing, and on the second to the last turn of the race Eing pulled off a picture perfect block pass on Ryan to get the win. Next was the 85cc race where local favorite Levi Rayburn took the holeshot and pulled a commanding lead to cruise in for the win. Then all in attendance witnessed the most exciting motocross race of the day when the MiniAtv Sr class left the starting line. The holeshot went to Caleb McQuinley, from Rushville Indiana, who led for the first lap until his chain came off and handed the lead over to Team Cyco Motorsports rider Ciera Bobb. Ciera kept the lead for several laps, but current SOCCS champion Mathew Harris was charging hard after a bad start and with one lap to go, Harris squeezed by Bobb for the win. Now it was time for the MiniAtv Jr’s. On the Start it was Team Humboldt Hills rider Trenner Wile taking the lead on the first few turns until Katherine Page narrowly completes a very dangerous pass over a jump that almost left her on the ground. From there Page ran away from the pack. A late race charge from Team Humboldt Hills rider Tristan Garrett looked promising, but time ran out for the young rider who finished in the second spot. In the 50cc and 65cc bikes Cross Nichols took off with the holeshot and never looked back for the 50cc win. Joey Barker showed massive determination to get into the second spot with a riding on the edge style that eventually cost him when the bike couldn’t take the punishment anymore and the rear shock bolts broke. Dillon Perry took the 50jr and Allen Jones won the 65’s. The final motocross race saw a heated battle between Noah Mullins from Haspen Acres, Indiana and Zane Stevens. Mullins took the early lead with Stevens right behind. Zane just couldn’t find a way around Noah and in a desperation move to get around Mullins, Zane found himself off the track watching the leader pull away. But we always race to the checkers, and when Noah got into some lapped traffic, Stevens found the sweet line around Noah and the lapper with one move to take the win in the MicroAtvs. With the motocross races completed, it was time for the Harescrambles. The 250’s and 125’s saw another heated battle between Ryan Daugherty and Nicholas Eing until Ryan went down hard leaving Nicholas all alone out front to run away with the victory. After a 1-minute penalty was assessed to the front-runners for cutting a corner, Jeff Elliott was awarded the 250 win. The 85’s saw a repeat of the motocross race with Levi Rayburns “on edge of disaster” riding style paid off for his second win of the day. Derek Snoke was picking up the pace towards the end of the race, but just ran out of time to finish second. At the start of the MiniAtv race, Mathew Harris grabs the holeshot, followed closely by The Bobb Sisters, Ciera and Kamren. The order remained the same with Harris taking his 2nd win of the day. As the MiniAtv jr row took off, once again Trenner Wile came off the line like a bullet to get his second straight holeshot of the day. The lead was short lived as a very determined Tristan Garrett pulled a nice block pass in the second turn and ran away from the field. Although Trenner Wile and Katherine Page made up a lot of time on Garrett towards the end of the race, when the checkers flew the order remained Garrett, Wile and then Page. The final harescramble of the day was the 50cc atvs and dirtbikes. In the bikes D-11 rider Cross Nichols took the early lead and never looked back for his 2nd win in as many attempts. The atvs saw Mullins once again with the holeshot, but Stevens moved by to run away with the victory. Dillon Perry took the 50jr win. The final event was the Rodeo obstacle course. One rider at a time was released around the course which involved bumps, jumps, logs and a wee pole style stretch of cones. Only one overall winner was decided in the rodeo. The 250 class went to Jeff Elliott who edged out Ryan Daugherty by just 1 second. Another big hit was the scavenger hunt. Spectators and racers searched all day for the 20 coupons stashed around the club facilities. All 20 were found and this will take place at all future events at Humboldt Hills. At the end of the day the only set back was the extreme heat. Given the choose between the first 2 years of torrential rain or this years heat, we will take the rain. |
